Emily Daccarett beautifully describes what it was like to visit old memories and making news ones with her latest single Fading Memories. Watch out for her upcoming album TOO!

Describe the heart of your latest single and how it came to be?

Due to the lockdown, I was back in my old room, painted in green with purple trim and filled with Tinkerbell decals, it was as if I had gone back in time. I reconnected with my childhood dreams. I knew that this feeling of longing, wanting to let go of the present, and return to my endless daydreaming had to be the heart of my new album. Fading Memories, my lead single, was the first song I finished, and it really carried the album, the melody can be found creeping in most of the songs in the album. It’s innocence drenched in melancholy from knowing that we can’t really go back.

What kind of change do you want to impact with the song?

I want it to inspire hope, even if you know things may not or can not change. Keep holding on to those dreams that bring you a sense of purpose.

Who did you share with the song first?

My mom and dad. They always tell me the truth and I love that.

What has been the fan reaction to it so far?

That it was written for a movie! Or that it should be in a movie!

Take us through the time and effort it took to be able to release the single?

We worked on the entire album simultaneously, and Fading Memories helped shape the album into a story. The whole process from writing, producing, post production and promo took a little over a year. There were days I didn’t want to hear it, a few versions in the middle of this whole process, we wanted to trash it. Then when it finally clicked, I loved it again, and knew this had to be the lead single.

Is there an emotional part of letting go of a song?

Yes! It’s almost like a special secret that belongs only to you and as it’s time to release it you wonder will anyone connect with it, connect with me, but when you feel that secret no longer belongs just to you, it’s time to let go.

Is there an amusing moment that makes you smile when you think about the journey of the single?

Yes, it was a journey and with many revisions. I didn’t think I could pull off speaking the verses in English, as I had done in French before. Felt stupid the first few times, but I eventually, through much trial and error, I found my rhythm.

What is a kind word that was imparted with you that you hold onto?

To never lose my sense of wonder.

What are kind words you'd like to share with us?

Never let anyone tell you to stop dreaming!
