Helping Others with Joey Stuckey!

Hello! Thank you for speaking with me today! A great joy to be here!

You are the music ambassador of your hometown, Macon, GA! Will you tell us a bit about how that came about and what it means to you? I have been working to make my hometown of Macon, Georgia, a better place to live and work since I got started in the music business. There is so much talent from here, Little Richard, Otis Redding and of course most of the southern rock icons lived and worked here in the late 60’s through the 70’s even if they weren’t from here. In more recent times, Jason Aldean is from around these parts. But it is the artists that you have never heard of unless you are from here that I so want you to know. I have been blessed to travel the world recording, producing, performing and speaking and I always speak about my hometown! In 2006 the mayor and city council decided to honor me for that by making me the official music ambassador so I could continue my work and make it plain that the town was behind me and proud of all we have to offer. The thing we most need to put our city back on the map world wide is to improve our music and entertainment infrastructure. I won’t go too far down that rabbit hole, but basically what NYC and LA have that we don’t are all the businesses and partnerships between government, nonprofits and the private sector, including artists, producers, etc! We have to build that network. To be sure we do have some of that and I am part of it, but not on the scale we need to thrive like those other music cities!

You do so much to give back to the music community- be it teaching, recording, etc. What motivated you to move in that direction, in addition to recording your own music? I have made it my life’s mission to leave the world a little better than I found it. I do that through teaching and supporting others in addition to being an artist myself. Music is the most powerful force I know for positive change. I am willing to make the world a better place one song and one person at a time. It took me a long time to agree to teach because I wanted to know without doubt that I have something to offer that would improve lives. I take my small role very seriously and love doing it. It is how I live my life with passion and intention!

With everything you have going on, how do you stay balanced? Any favorite ways to stay recharged and grounded? Yeah, I stay silly! I am very much in touch with my inner child and take time to play. I also take time for friends and family and I have a few hobbies like collecting stuffed animals from all over the world when I travel. I also collect anything Star Wars! Of course I have my favorite TV shows and movies that bring comfort, like 2 Broke Girls and Are You Being Served. I also have a few places that make me feel connected to life—I love the energy of NYC and also the beaches in Hawaii and of St. Augustine, FL! I also love the ritual of making my cup of coffee LOL!

Any upcoming projects you want everyone to know about? Always working on projects of both my own music and that of my clients. Right now, I am mostly excited to have a new studio tool the Mojave Audio MA37. I am really enjoying putting that mic through it paces. However, COVID permitting, hopefully we’ll be back on the road touring and with that should be a new album, but we’ll just have to see.
