What stands out to you as being the piece of music that has changed the game for the industry? Wow! My head is spinning because there are so many ways I could answer this question. I will answer it like this…the last song that made me really stop in my tracks and listen was Billie Eilish's “Bad Guy.” You are a game changer yourself... How do you want to change the game with YOUR music? I believe music is about self expression more so than a definitive genre style. Therefore, I like mixing genres. My songs do not always perfectly rhyme or follow a normal verse, chorus, verse, chorus, bridge, chorus flow. I like to try things and see what works with the story I am trying to deliver. If the story is able to be delivered well, then it shouldn’t matter whether verse one and two have the same amount of syllables and a perfect rhyme scheme. Don’t get me wrong, those elements sometimes help, but they can also hinder if you focus more on structural rules than whether or not you elicit an emotion. How are you putting together your next project? My producer, Ricky Rodriguez, and I have approached this project in a completely different way. The foundation of my songs is already there before I go to the studio and then we basically have been building from the ground up production wise. I like including samples and other elements that may not be typical, but yet play on words or emotions of the song. Who are you collaborating with? I recently collaborated with The Whythouse out of Canada. Chris came to me late last year with a song concept called “Starz Collide.” I wrote the verses outlining my relationship with my husband and the concept of opposites attract. The chorus is based on Chris’ relationship with his wife. We are currently discussing another song. Who are you giving credit to when it comes to how this upcoming music is being made? I couldn’t do it without Ricky. We have been working together for eight years now. And we are pretty much on the same page musically. I don’t always explain the ideas floating around in my head well, but he is able to understand and bring my vision to life. Biggest lesson so far this year that you are taking into this summer?! Keep going. When you're tired…keep going. When you are fearful…keep going. There are so many people out there hoping for opportunities that I have graciously been given. I never want to take any of it for granted. What is something EPIC you're doing this summer to contribute to your art? I would say releasing Part One of my album “Songbird” and finishing up Part Two for an early fall release. Also, working on a Christmas project and possibly a co-write with my producer. You are just EPIC! Give us everything we need to keep up! Fun fact: I actually started singing before I could talk. I would sing melodies. And my father taught me to click in order to answer questions before I could fully communicate with words.
