Melotika on Performing, Inspiration, and More!
Hi Melotika! Great to speak with you today!
What have you been working on lately?
Other than promoting my latest single 'Digital Dreams', I am planning for the next release in June and the ongoing song-writing. I have a handful of new demos that I need to record, mix and master to create new releases. I am also slowly building my home studio so I can start recording my new music from home.
Who inspired you to get into music?
Right from the get-go, as a kid I would have to say artists like Britney Spears and Michael Jackson inspired me and later as a teen a lot of bands I listened to go me into songwriting, such as my Idol Maynard James Keenan (Singer of Tool, A Perfect Circle).
When was the first time you recall thinking that you wanted to pursue music as your career?
It was a dream of mine as a kid! Literally since age 3! But only later on in my early 20's I started to pursue this dream.
What is your favorite song you've ever released and why?
My latest 'Digital Dreams' because it is so relevant to the times we are now in and it is so catchy. The song sings about our obsessions with the online world making light out of a dark situation since the global pandemic and partaking in the new virtual world. We are so obsessed with being social through our phones and the need to be loved and connected is greater than ever. We all want validation and we all want to be somebody we ‘want to be seen as’. You can literally be anyone you want online. And for that, all the imagination and eccentric vibes in this song is my favorite and a project I am most proud of. Who are some of the artists currently inspiring you?
To name a few, Maynard James Keenan, Lady Gaga, Madonna, Britney Spears, Metric, Silversun Pickups, and music from the 70's, 80's, and 90's! Any plans to start performing live as shows pick back up?
Now that Covid restrictions seem to be lifting here in Canada, I have a show that has been postponed in Toronto for this Summer at Monarch Tavern on June 3rd and I will be planning to perform abroad in some USA cities. More info TBA! What is your favourite song to perform? Unaware Pt II (Blindside). That is the 'O-G' Melotika track! Those who have been following me for quite some time know this song and it has sort of been a classic in our Melotika universe. What are you hoping to see in the music world as it continues to evolve? I am hoping that the music industry starts considering artists more for their music and art rather than their 'followers' and 'branding.' I feel like the industry is getting out of hand with signing artists only because of their appearances and social media following when there are thousands of amazing hardworking artists who deserve a piece of the spotlight.
