Stream 'SMOKESCREENS' today with Dema Raye after you read this authentic interview we had the honor to do with her.

Happy New Year! How did you start yours off musically? Happy New Year! Besides celebrating with my friends while dancing to our favourite songs, I got the opportunity to collaborate with some incredible musicians that I love and admire, which was very exciting. I also booked tickets to see Gracie Abrams and The National in June, so I'm counting down the days! What hot sounds in the city should the fan listen to yours right now? Anything off of my debut EP smokescreens! How has the reception been to new music? It's been amazing. I'm very grateful to have such a supportive fanbase that endlessly supports me and my music. The response to my debut EP, Smokescreens, has surpassed all of my expectations, and I'm just thrilled that people are listening and sharing my songs. It truly means the world to me. What are you looking forward to most when you perform in front of an audience this year? Honestly, I'm just looking forward to being able to meet everyone! Nothing beats a crowd of people dancing and singing along to your songs, and I can't wait to be in that environment. What was the intention set for your music? My intention has always been to cultivate an emotional connection with my listeners. I'm a very lyric focused songwriter, and I thrive on telling stories, so I can only hope that it resonates with my listeners and that they're able to find themselves within these stories. I want my music to be a part of their daily soundtrack in life and help them get by in times of struggle or celebrate with them when they're feeling joyful. Kind of like a source of comfort or a friend that gives you exactly what you need and never leaves you. What was the most important message to impart with your music? I love how thoughtful these questions are! The most important message to impart from my music, specifically from this record, would definitely be to trust your intuition, feel your emotions wholeheartedly, and validate them in any way you can. My song afterthought is a perfect reflection of that. It's an emotional ballad that serves as an endless stream of consciousness that asks tough questions and reveals hard truths that one has to face at some point in life. Writing this song was the catalyst to writing the EP and committing to a professional career in music. That song really pushed me to live by its cathartic lyrics and go after my dreams and desires instead of just treating them as an afterthought. How do you want your fans to treat themselves after listening to your music? What a phenomenal question! I honestly never thought about that. I would love for them to be more compassionate with themselves. Sometimes the hardest thing for us to do is be kind to ourselves. So, I hope my songs can make them feel heard and encourage them to trust their heart and go after their dreams no matter what. What song do you have on repeat right now to set the mood for 2022? So many songs! Lately, I've been listening to my infinity playlist, which is filled with songs I'll never get sick of, and they feature a plethora of extraordinary artists and genres ranging from Rock music to Musical Theatre soundtracks. But one song that has inspired me recently and helped me kick start the New Year with a solid and optimistic attitude is Louder Than Words, written and composed by the amazing Jonathan Larson and sung by the incredible cast of tick, tick...BOOM!
