'STAY'ING UP TO DATE WITH LA VIVI
Musical artist La Vivi talks to us all about her latest song, 'Stay'.
You got some new hot sounds! Can you tell us about the latest single?
I have indeed. My latest single is called “Stay.” It is a collaboration between me and IODI, a duo from Paraguay that were very successful in the seventies throughout South America. My uncle, Jörn Wenger, is one of the cofounders of IODI who originally recorded the backing track to this song in 1973. However, it was not finished until last year. It lay unreleased for forty-seven years before it was finally heard!
The finished version of Stay still has a very romantic, seventies vibe to it. I laid down the vocals to the song and the backing track was rearranged a bit to suit my voice.
It’s a very international production. I recorded the vocals in Munich, the guitar was recorded in Costa Rica, the song was produced and mastered in Paraguay, and the label that released it, Tangential Music, is based in Hastings, England.
It's close to your heart, was it difficult to finally release it?
That’s right, it is a song that's very close to my heart. Especially because it is a family collaboration. But it wasn’t difficult to release it at all! Probably because of the same reason: Family. My uncle supervised the production and I trust him completely. It’s actually the first time in my life that I feel this safe while recording and producing music! I can be myself, and I don’t have to worry about not being enough or anything. I can let myself go and trust the process. And that is what art is about, to me at least.
What kind of sounds can your fans expect from 'Stay'?
Stay is very romantic and mellow. The backing track was recorded in the seventies, and you can still feel it. Also, the lyrics are very romantic. It’s about someone who is losing the love of their life, but they don't want this to happen so they are begging for that love to stay. If you want to feel melancholy, this is definitely your song!
Was there ever a moment when you released the song and wanted to change something?
No, never! We spent so much time working on the song and made sure we were happy with it before we released it. I am very happy with how things are going.
Would you consider yourself a perfectionist?
Oh yes definitely! I am a perfectionist and also, I always want to have everything under control. When I record a song, I normally take my time, record and re record my vocals until they are perfect. And I don’t like to use Autotune or too much Melodyne. But sometimes, you just need to let go of perfection. The other day, I read this quote that I really liked. It said: “Artists who seek perfection in everything are those who cannot attain it in anything.”
How excited are you about this single?
I’m very excited! It is the first of a number of songs that I have recorded with IODI, and the first single to be released by my new label, Tangential Music. So far, it’s been going great. I am very thankful for all the attention that the song has been getting. This is just the beginning. There’s a lot more to come!
How do fans hear it?
You can find the song on all digital platforms. Spotify, iTunes, Amazon, Tidal, Deezer and see the video on YouTube. I hope that everyone enjoys Stay.
