THE 90's EDGE OF DEAR GENRE'S 'PARLIAMENT'

André started playing music at the age of five after a musically inclined Turkish born au pair noticed the natural rhythm he possessed & introduced him to the drums & guitar.

He began sharing his music with the public as a high-school senior under the name Dear Genre with the release of his debut record, “You Put the fear in Atmosphere.”

(Produced by Ross Christopher, 2010.)

Since, six records & a handful of singles have been released, including the most recent single, 'Parliament' (Jan/22).

Seldom defining their exact style, 'St. Louis Music Underground Indie Rock Podcast' describes previous works as “Dreamy shoe-gaze, contrasted at other points with some beautiful, jangly, almost country twee-pop, drone-y electronica with a Middle Eastern feel, & just flat out, bombastic rock, among many others”.

How is your year starting off musically? My year has started off fairly strong. I've released one single so far this year & it generated super positive feedback. For the past six months, I've been in the process of creating a small catalogue of songs in the studio that I'm now able to do what I want with. I'm currently in the process of deciding whether I'm gonna continue releasing singles or move towards releasing music in a different form. What hot sounds in the city should fans be listening to of yours right now? Fans should take a moment to listen to my latest single 'Parliament'. It's an acoustic guitar driven song with a 90's edge to it. How has the reception been to new music? 'Parliament', the latest single has generated a good amount of really positive feedback and even helped to grow my audience. A number of people that have supported me since the early days of the project mentioned that they really enjoy the return to the upbeat, acoustically driven songs. What are you looking forward to most when you perform in front of an audience this year? I'm most looking forward to human connection and that sense of community that comes from being a part of live music. Performing in front of a live audience also gives me the ability to interact with those folks who spent their hard earned money to pay to see live music! What was the intention set for your music? I believe the original intention set for my music was to deliver thought provoking melodies & a positive message where I could. What was the most important message to impart with your music? The most important message to pass along with my music is to embrace your individuality! We're meant to set ourselves apart from the crowd and be free in the way we express ourselves. How do you want your fans to treat themselves after listening to your music? I hope my supporters are able to treat themselves gently, giving themselves grace and patience after listening to my music. What is a song of yours that you have on repeat right now to set the mood for 2022? A song of mine that I have on repeat right now to set the mood for 2022 is hands down, 'Parliament'. It's still fresh enough that I'm not sick of it quite yet & I hope you like it too!
