The Emergence of D Boone Pittman
Hi! Great to speak with you today!
What have you been working on lately? We are mostly focused on promoting the Emerge album. Doing a lot of shows. I have started doing some writing for the next project.
Who inspired you to get into music? Hard to say for sure. It’s just something I have always had a passion for. Some of my earliest memories were of me in my room playing air guitar to KISS records and dreaming of being a rock star
When was the first time you recall thinking that you wanted to pursue music as your career?
I think the first time I knew I was serious about it I was about 21 years old writing my first songs. It was around this time when the Country music “Class of ‘89” was taking over country radio and I was hooked. I couldn’t think about doing anything else.
What is your favorite song you've ever released and why?
That’s a tough question, a lot like asking me which one of kids is my favorite But if I had to choose it would be “The Revelation” from the Emerge album. This is a narrative story about a young man’s spiritual experience while being thrown in jail for a night with an older, homeless Afghanistan veteran. I like this one because it came together for me a lot like reading a story for the first time. It began with no ending in mind, I just had an opening verse and premise. But the story unfolded for me the same way it does for the listener, one line at a time until it reaches the powerful conclusion.
Who are some of the artists currently inspiring you?
I really like Jason Isbell and respect his songwriting. My oldest son turned me on to him and it really helped to inspire me to return to the art of writing a good song. I think Chris Stapleton has the most powerful voice I have ever heard, and another great songwriter in his own right. But it was Springsteen and Steve Earle that influenced me more than anyone.
Any plans to start performing live as shows pick back up?
We are crazy busy now. I have close to 20 shows on the calendar and growing.
What is your favourite song to perform?
"Indian Creek” by D Boone Pittman
What are you hoping to see in the music world as it continues to evolve? A return in the music industry to a process that rewards artists and songwriters financially. The digital age and streaming has made it next to impossible to make a living selling music as an artist or as a songwriter.
I would also love to see country music return to country music instead of the pop driven machine that is currently driving the genre.
